This is the only known photo of Dewayne on
his ship the USS Massachusetts. Photo kept
by brother Herb in his wallet ever since
receiving it from Dewayne when Dewayne was
in the Navy. Herb gave a copy to Dewayne's son Larry.
Dewayne's Ship
the U.S.S.Massachusetts

Dewayne took a terrible fall or was pushed
from the second deck of the ship, 20 feet
down, injuring his body and precious head.
He was barely 18 years old, having been brave
for his country and followed his brother
into the War before he turned 18. But God
was with Him so far from his beloved home.
Far, far away, at that beloved home, his
sleeping Mom was awakened abruptly at just
that very moment and felt strongly that she
was supposed to pray for Dewayne and that
God was telling her he was in trouble. She
got out of bed and began to pray constantly
for him. His life was spared and his mom,
dad, sister & brother who loved him so
much were eternally grateful to God. His mom found out later through his letters
and she writing down the date & time,
that she was wakened at the exact time he
fell & needed help. Dewayne was in tune
with God and so was his mom and the results
were powerful.

Lover of home,

What mischief is he thinking up?
His mischief always of the pure & innocent
kind and it showed in his demeanor as he
aged.
A faithful man in all respects - to his mother
and father and to his future wife. With his
high moral standards, he resisted the temptations
of the Navy despite his powerful masculinity
and he saved himself as a gift for his future
wife who did the same, knowing only one woman
in the Biblical sense.
A feat not only of faithfulness but also
of the highest kind of courage and strength
with love for God Many around him had no
personal restraints from higher goals in
life and livedlike animals and thus making
fun of him. However, Dewayne chose Navy friends
with similar high standards for living life
well and happily with no regrets.
His sister has kept all his precious Navy
letters for his descendants. He stated that he gave away
all of his Journals from the Navy to some
Navy organization.

He was the younger brother. When he was 10
yrs old, he became the middle child and
expressed sympathy with grandson
Eric, although
he joined up with the Navy when
his sis was
only 7 yrs old, leaving home
until the war
was over.
He came back home to live whereas his brother
Herby never came back home to live because
he married just before shipping off for the
dangerous assignment to Germany.

Dewayne always stated that he did not want
these things; however they were lovingly
saved anyway for Dewayne by first his Mom,
and then by his Sister, When Adella gave
them to Dewayne in a wooden box made by Alden,
after his melanoma surgery, he was happy
to receive them and remember.
